While in the Marine Corps, Lisa served in Parris Island, South Carolina; Twentynine Palms, California; and Okinawa, Japan. After college, she backpacked solo around Europe trying to figure out her place in the world. Coming across good luck in Paris, she lived and worked in an international youth hostel and then as an au pair in a tiny studio in the heart of Montmartre.
Back in the States, Lisa tried several more career paths, including including owning a bookstore, being a "Mad Scientist," working in a travel agency, counseling teens, writing for newspapers, and just about anything that struck her fancy. She also continued her random solo wanderings, such as a road trip to New Orleans on her own, stopping in several cities on the way. Through all her jobs and all her travels, she discovered what she loved to do—write—whether it was writing newsletters for a company or writing in journals as she traveled around Europe. To her parents's relief, she finally settled down and stayed put—getting married, going to grad school, and starting a career as a technical writer and editor. She also began writing about her travels and experiences.
Lisa now lives in the Boston area with her husband and two children. She operates her business focused on technical writing, editing, and Web content management. She still loves escaping to local cafes for an hour to read, write, or linger. And she still enjoys travelling to new destinations, only now with her family of four.
Lisa is a member of the following organizations:
